A Family's Montessori Experience Ended With a Move to Public School
One parent explains why a strong Montessori start didn't stop the switch to traditional public school for first grade.
A parent writing for Business Insider describes how their daughter thrived at Montessori schools through kindergarten but still moved to public school for first grade.
The daughter attended a private Montessori preschool before winning a spot at a public Montessori charter school for kindergarten, giving the family what they saw as a rare, tuition-free continuation of a Montessori education.
The parent said the Montessori experience brought clear benefits, including early reading, writing, and math skills, along with social and emotional growth as their daughter took on a leadership role among younger classmates.
Despite those gains, the family ultimately chose to switch to a traditional public school, a decision the parent said followed conversations with neighbors whose children attended public schools and questions about whether a more conventional school experience might better suit their family going forward.
