Teacher hits Coast FIRE at 34 after investing $140,000 over 10 years
Taryn Williams used a pay-yourself-first budget and apps like Acorns to build a retirement cushion on a modest salary.
Taryn Williams reached Coast FIRE at 34 after a decade of investing on a teacher's salary, putting away $140,000 using a pay-yourself-first budgeting system, according to Business Insider. Reaching Coast FIRE means she now has enough invested to retire comfortably at 67 without contributing another dollar.
Williams said she grew up with no financial literacy and knew no one who invested, which pushed her to start learning about personal finance in high school and college. After graduating, she began investing small amounts monthly through apps like Acorns, which allow investing with as little as $5, alongside a 403(b) retirement account through her job.
Despite the aggressive saving, Williams said she still prioritizes travel and concerts when she can, balancing long-term investing with day-to-day life.
