Wendy Rowland, 53, returned to work in her 50s after her husband, 59, was diagnosed with early-onset Lewy body dementia, according to Business Insider. The couple has already used up his 401(k) and sold the home they owned for more than 20 years to cover the cost of his care; he has lived in a memory care facility in Tennessee for over two years.

Rowland, who had been a stay-at-home mom, met her husband while both worked at the same printing company in Memphis, where he had worked since he was 18 handling brand labels. The couple suspected his decades of exposure to chemicals on the job may have contributed to his condition, which they first noticed in his early 50s when familiar tasks started coming out "a little backward."

With the proceeds from the home sale running down, Rowland said she isn't sure what the family will do once that money is gone.
