Woman Chooses Turkey Over $13,000 US Price For Hair Transplant
Nicole Ethridge had spent up to $700 per wig and gone through nine a year after developing traction alopecia following her daughter's birth.
Nicole Ethridge, a 39-year-old from Southern Maryland, flew to Turkey for a hair transplant after finding the procedure cost $13,000 in the US, according to Business Insider.
Ethridge's hair began thinning noticeably at the front after the birth of her daughter, now 19; a dermatologist diagnosed her with traction alopecia, often caused by tight hairstyles that pull on the hair.
She relied on wigs that mimicked her natural hairline to cope, paying between $300 and $700 each and going through as many as nine a year since they don't last.
The expense eventually led her to start making her own wigs, which she began selling to other women dealing with similar hair loss.
She tried numerous treatments, including creams and ointments, before opting for the transplant in Turkey, which she says restored her hair ahead of her wedding next year.
