OpenAI launches $500-a-month ChatGPT plan, its most expensive tier yet
The Pro 500 plan adds faster computing for coding but comes as OpenAI cuts usage limits on its $200 tier.
OpenAI introduced a new $500-a-month ChatGPT subscription tier, called Pro 500, at its Tuesday DevDay event, according to Business Insider. The plan costs $300 more than the company's previous top tier and works out to $6,000 a year.
Pro 500 includes access to "Ultrafast" computing for GPT-6 Astra in ChatGPT Work and Codex, offering an 8x speed increase in OpenAI's coding tool, and comes with the company's highest included usage limit. At the same time, OpenAI reduced the compute allowance on its existing $200-a-month plan.
The new pricing means AI power users, particularly coders who regularly hit token limits, now face steeper costs, especially if they also pay for competing tools like Anthropic or Cursor.
