Former IBM manager built counseling-marketing business into 7-figure company
Becky DeGrossa left two decades at IBM to become a therapist, then turned a side gig helping other therapists market their practices into CounselingWise.
Becky DeGrossa spent 20 years at IBM, rising to consultant and managing principal, before leaving in 2003 because she'd lost her passion for the work, according to Business Insider. She earned a psychology master's degree from 2003 to 2006 and became a practicing therapist, drawn to the one-on-one coaching she'd enjoyed most as a manager.
While working as a therapist, DeGrossa started a side business from her office helping other therapists market themselves with custom websites, SEO and Google Ads. That side gig grew into CounselingWise, a company she now runs out of Boulder, Colorado, with 40 to 50 contractors chosen for their people skills, which she credits for helping her scale.
At 66, DeGrossa says the company now generates seven figures in revenue.
