Diesel Hits Record $6.055 a Gallon as Middle East, Ukraine Tensions Escalate
Wholesalers are already raising prices further, with gasoline and diesel both expected to climb in the coming days.
Diesel prices hit a U.S. national record of $6.055 a gallon on September 11, according to TheStreet, with prices up 62% so far in 2026 based on data from GasBuddy and AAA.
Wholesalers in the U.S. and elsewhere are already telling retailers to expect further increases, according to a tweet from GasBuddy chief oil analyst Patrick De Haan. His projections, as of September 10, point to gasoline rising 8 to 15 cents a gallon and diesel rising 24 to 27 cents a gallon.
Escalating tensions in the Middle East and Ukraine are driving the increases, with little relief expected in the near term.
GasBuddy noted that diesel's reach extends well beyond personal vehicles, powering the freight trucks, trains, agricultural equipment and construction machinery behind nearly everything Americans buy.
